Diversity of aquatic flora and fauna

The research results show that there are 178 species of aquatic plants, of which the freshwater plant group has 20 species; the mangrove plant group has 16 species; seagrass has 20 species; seaweed has 169 species. In the 20 species of aquatic plants belonging to 14 different plant families, of which the family Poaceae has 06 species, the family Monaceae has 02 species, each family has only 01 species. In the saltwater environment, there is also diversity in species composition with 13 species belonging to 07 families, distributed in coastal areas and coastal islands. In the saltwater environment, there are also 09 species of seagrass, belonging to 05 genera, 04 families, 02 orders. The Magnoliophyta phylum is present in the sea area of ​​the research area, accounting for 56% of the total number of seagrass species in Vietnam. Seaweed is also counted as having 169 species, of which the Cyanobacteria phylum has 04 species; Brown algae has 23 species; Chlorophyta has 59 species and Rhodophyta has 83 species of mollusks (49.11%).

Coral has 178 species, distributed over an area of ​​300 hectares, most distributed in An Hoa Hai commune – An Chan commune (167.2 hectares), accounting for more than half of the area. Of which, the largest coral reef is in Bai Go in An Chan commune (39.4 hectares), Hon Chua – An Chan commune (32.73 hectares). Of the 178 coral species, 127 species (accounting for 71.35%) have rare values ​​that need to be preserved at different endangered levels listed in the IUCN Red List 2021.

The area planned to establish the Geopark also has a diversity of fish species with 189 fish species belonging to 60 families of 15 different fish orders. Of which, the Perciformes order has 26 families with 71 species. The Siluriformes order has 07 families with 15 species. The Anguilliformes order has 05 families; the Mugiliformes order has 03 families; the Cypriniformes order has only 02 families, 47 species. The remaining orders each have from 01 to 02 families. The research results also show that, of the 189 fish species, there are 08 species in the list of endangered species at different threat levels in the Vietnam Red Book 2007 (accounting for 4.23% of the total number of recorded species).
