This afternoon, December 26, at the Provincial Conference Center, the Dak Nong Provincial People’s Committee organized a provincial scientific workshop with the theme “Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark with the goal of sustainable development”.

Attending the workshop, on the Central side were comrades: Le Thi Hong Van, Director of the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO, Secretary General of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Sciences, Humanities and Natural Sciences, Ministry of Science and Technology.

On the Dak Nong side, there were comrades: Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; Duong Khac Mai, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Deputy Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation, together with leaders of departments, branches and sectors; experts, scientists and partners of the Dak Nong UNESCO Geopark.

Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Committee Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh and leaders of departments and branches attended the workshop.

The workshop aimed to discuss and clarify the relationship between Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark and sustainable development goals, building the Geopark into a typical model in balancing conservation and development, contributing to the common cause of the country.

In her opening speech at the workshop, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of Dak Nong Provincial People’s Committee Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh expressed her pride that Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark is one of the members of this network, representing the Central Highlands, Vietnam with unique values ​​in geology, culture and ecosystem.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee said that up to now, the UNESCO Global Geopark Network has 213 parks in 48 countries and territories around the world. This is a proud journey, demonstrating the spirit of international cooperation in geological heritage conservation, community education and sustainable development.

The re-recognition of the title of “Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark for the period 2024 – 2027” by UNESCO is not only a recognition of the province’s persistent efforts but also a motivation for us to continue our journey of sustainable development, linking cultural and natural values ​​with the prosperity of the community.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee hopes that the Workshop with the participation of experts, scientists, and experienced managers will be a valuable forum to share knowledge, initiatives, and visions to promote sustainable tourism, conserve nature, and preserve the unique cultural values ​​of ethnic groups in Dak Nong.

In her congratulatory speech, Ms. Le Thi Hong Van, Director of the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO, Secretary General of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highly appreciated the organization of the scientific workshop on the UNESCO Dak Nong Geopark by the Dak Nong Provincial People’s Committee. This is an opportunity to expand connections with educational and training institutions, especially universities and research institutes, to maximize the potential of the Geopark, serving research and education, towards building a responsible young community with a deep awareness of its role in the work of preserving and promoting heritage values ​​in a sustainable manner.

Deputy Director of Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark Management Board Hoang Thi Hue presented a paper on propaganda and education work to raise public awareness and promote cultural values ​​and craft villages in the Geopark area.

Participating in the discussion of solutions to help the development of the Geopark model, Deputy Director of the Cao Bang Non Nuoc Geopark Management Board Hoang Thi Hue said that Cao Bang focuses on propaganda and education to raise community awareness and promote cultural values ​​and craft villages in the Geopark area. As a result, the Cao Bang Non Nuoc Geopark Management Board has successfully built partnerships with craft village people to directly participate in promoting cultural values ​​and craft villages, thereby spreading them to the community. Villagers also want and join hands in implementing activities to preserve and develop craft villages in a sustainable manner.

Ms. Le Thi Hong An, Director of Nam Blang Cooperative, Former Deputy Director of UNESCO Dak Nong Geopark, proposed some solutions.

In order to gather forces, build strategies and gradually put the local community into effective operation, Ms. Le Thi Hong An, Director of Nam Blang Cooperative, Former Deputy Director of Dak Nong UNESCO Geopark, proposed to operate stop No. 9 – Sunrise Valley in Nam N’dir commune to build a community tourism model in Nam N’dir commune that meets OCOP standards.

In addition, Ms. Le Thi Hong An proposed plans, advised and guided the communities of Buôn Choah, Đắk N’dro, Đắk Sô, Nam Đà, and Quảng Phú communes to effectively manage and promote the value of the Nam Blang volcanic landscape heritage and the volcanic cave system in Krong No district on the promulgation of regulations on management, protection, exploitation, promotion of heritage values ​​and tourism development in the volcanic cave area in the district.

Through the workshop, it was affirmed that Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark is not only a valuable geological heritage but also a model of socio-economic development associated with nature and culture conservation and enhancing community awareness. Notably, the realization of the 2030 Agenda with sustainable development goals, from biodiversity conservation, climate change response, to sustainable tourism development and improving people’s livelihoods.

Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Committee Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh affirmed that the ideas and experiences shared in the Workshop are a source of inspiration and an important basis for us to continue to improve and implement more practical and effective solutions in the future.

The journey of sustainable development is not only the responsibility of a locality or an organization, but also a common mission of the whole society. Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark is not only the pride of Dak Nong province, but also a symbol of the connection between people, nature and culture. We believe that, with unanimity and continuous efforts, Dak Nong Geopark will continue to affirm its role as an active member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network, contributing to building a sustainable Dak Nong and successfully implementing Vietnam’s commitments within the framework of the 2030 Agenda.

Tonight, at 19:00, Dak Nong province will hold the Ceremony to receive the title of UNESCO Dak Nong Global Geopark for the second time in 2024. The program will continue to honor the timeless values ​​of Dak Nong Geopark.
