Cooperation between Dak Nong Geopark Management Board and UNESCO Mudeungsan Global Geopark Management Board (Korea)

In the spirit of international cooperation, exchanging experiences in heritage protection, communicating about geoscience and developing local tourism, promoting the sustainable development of the two geoparks.

After a period of research and cooperation within the Asia-Pacific Geopark Network, Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark (DNUGGp) and Mudeungsan UNESCO Global Geopark – Korea agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Management Boards of the two geoparks within the framework of the 20th International Conference on Volcanic Caves in Dak Nong province.

To contribute to the implementation at a higher level of the most important requirement that UNESCO Global Geoparks are striving to promote through agreements and developing cooperative relationships between the two parties. Accordingly, the objective of this Memorandum of Understanding is international cooperation, exchange of experiences between the two parties based on the spirit of friendship, respect for the independence and equal status of each Geopark.

Within the framework of this Agreement, the two Geoparks (represented by the management board) will participate in the following cooperative activities:

1. Exchange of ideas and experiences on heritage protection, communication on geoscience and local tourism development.

2. Cooperation on culture and tourism, promoting the sustainable development of both Geoparks.

3. Exchange of ideas and information online through the internet and other tools to share experiences on developing and promoting Geoparks.

4. Plan to organize joint educational programs, such as exchange programs for students of each Geopark’s schools.

5. Plan to develop websites or publications of the partner Geopark, promote joint research activities, etc.

This Memorandum of Understanding does not create any legal relationship between the two Geoparks under domestic and international law. Both Geoparks participating in this Agreement are not legally bound until and unless an Agreement has been duly negotiated and executed by the authorized representatives of both Geoparks. This Memorandum of Understanding also does not give rise to any legal proceedings between the two Geoparks.

The duration of the cooperation is five (5) years, however, either Geopark may terminate this Memorandum of Understanding by giving one (1) month’s written notice to the other party.

The Parties shall endeavour to contribute their experience and expertise to the realization of action plans and necessary measures to further promote common interests under the Memorandum of Understanding based on the spirit of close cooperation and mutual assistance.
