– The prominence and rarity of paleontological heritage The survey of the area planned to establish the Geopark has recorded 07 manifestations of paleontological heritage including: Fossilized mollusk heritage in O Loan Lagoon; semi-fossilized coral heritage in Nhat Tu Son coastal area… Compared to the areas that have been recognized as Geoparks, this area does not have diversity in paleontological geological heritage, but the paleontological heritage in this area is known to be rare and has outstanding value, including diatomite plant fossils, with geographical coordinates: 568,779.69 – 1,466,415.76 in Hoa Loc village, An Xuan commune, Tuy An district. This fossil site is located in the distribution area of the Kon Tum formation. In the research area, the Kon Tum formation is distributed in the Van Hoa plateau, characterized by sedimentary – lake-facies eruptions – volcanic landscapes interspersed with layers of eruptive basalt. Diatomite is located in the lower part of the Kon Tum formation section, interspersed with basalt and clay layers containing diatomite.
– Geological characteristics of the heritage and outstanding values of the geological heritage.
– In terms of aesthetics: Diatomite forms layers with a single tilt position, the leaf prints are very complete and quite beautiful.
– Geological heritage types: type A (paleozoic), type C (paleoenvironmental), type H (geological economy), type F (minerals, minerals).
